I guess we were lucky… our kittens were very easy to litterbox train. Except maybe one… she kept using the entire room as a littler box
Here are some easy tips on how to Litterbox Train your kitten from a cat mamma…
The Litterbox
The most important part of litter training is, of course, the litter box. It is necessary that the box is clean and comfortable for the cat to use.
Try using a large litter box – with low edges if you have a small or elderly cat. Place the box in a quiet and private area where the cat will not be disturbed, but close enough that it is easy to access.
As cats are private animals, it would perhaps be wise to use a covered box depending on your needs.
However, be aware that covered litter boxes may stink up easily, and it can be more uncomfortable for some cats, especially larger ones.
When it comes to the litter, use a brand that is soft and comfortable on the cat’s paws. Preferably, use a clumping type.
Avoid using heavily scented litter as some cats can have allergic reactions, or simply not prefer them.
Most importantly, pay attention to your cat. Our cat prefers using unscented litter, and likes having a lot of space to move around in her box.
Finally, make sure to keep the litter box neat. Clean it often and keep the litter at a depth of around two inches.
Training your kitten
The first step is the placement of the box. Observe your kitten’s habits and place the box in a place where it is likely to be used. Try to keep it away from the kitten’s water and food, and as mentioned earlier, choose a private area.
Introduce your kitten to the litterbox slowly. Some take to it quickly while some will take time.
Don’t rush it.
